Oh, Lucy Hughes, how my heart broke for you again and again!

After Lucy is ambushed by her boyfriend's very public and unexpected proposal, Lucy's story splits into two timelines: one in which she accepts his proposal and another where she says no. Neither path is without its struggles and lessons to be learned and through both the reader learns Lucy's backstory.

Annie Morgan's debut novel is well written and deals with difficult subject matter in a way that feels genuine and compassionate. I initially wondered if I would have trouble with the alternating timelines, but Annie writes them in such a way that I followed along easily. In fact, I think this storytelling strategy helped break up some of the heavier moments of the story.

Like many women, Lucy has learned to say "Sorry" even when something is not even remotely her fault. This book was an excellent reminder to be brave and unapologetically remain true to yourself.

Shannon McManus was an excellent choice of narrator and voiced Lucy Hughes perfectly, in my opinion.

The Fractured Life of Lucy Hughes is perfect for readers who like emotional journeys and stories of self-discovery. I can't wait to see what Annie comes up with next!
